Jacksonville Jaguars Fire Ubran Meyer
Urban Meyer was a total miss during his brief stint with Jacksonsville Jaguars going 2-11 but what’s more jarring is that he never gained the respect of the league media but most importantly the Jaguar players. In life when you give people a chance to doubt you they’ll take the chance to do just that. It’s no different with professional athletes. There was never a buy in from the Jag’s players and respected members of the media publicly had their doubts. Jaguar’s Owner Shad Khan accounced Wednesday night Urban will no longer be head coach of the Jaguars. Khan said in a statement, “As I stated in October regaining our trust and respect was essential. Regrettably, it did not happen.” Let’s take a look at Meyer’s timeline of dubious decisions during his brief tenure as an NFL coach.
It’s really hard to find a positive thing Urban did for the franchise. Early into Meyer’s tenure,as he was assembling his staff for the 2021-2022 NFL season, for some reason Meyer thought it was a good idea to appoint former Iowa strength coach Chris Doyle as head Jag’s strength and conditioning coach. Doyle was put on paid administrative leave in June, 2020 as he was alleged of racism and mistreatment of former Iowa players. Out of all the available strength coaches you choose the racist one..good call Urban. This was a very unpopular move amongst current and former NFL players, the Jag’s franchise, national media and untimely led to Meyer renouncing his decision to hire Doyle. And that was just the beginning. Jaguars signed Tim Tebow to play tight end who at the time was still trying to figure out how to hit a curveball and catch a flyball in the minor’s. He was undersized, couldnt block, and oh yeah hadn’t played in a regular season game since 2012. The Jaguars almost win a Thursday night game against the Bengals. As the team jet heads back to Jacksonsville, where’s Urban. Oh that right he didn’t board the plane that night, he actually elects to stay in Ohio. A few days later a video surfaces (now viewed more than a million times) of Meyer groping a young woman in his Ohio bar hours after the loss. Turns out that young woman in the video was in fact not his wife. Let’s fast forward to December (no clue how he made it to December) and the trust NFL reporter Tom Pelissero reports that Meyer called his assistant coaches losers and got into a spirited argument with star receiver Marvin Jones. A day later the Jags get dominated by the Titans, Meyer gives the most lackasical post game handshake to head coach Mike Vrabel and fellow former Ohio St Buckeye. Four days later former Jag’s player Josh limbo tells the Tampa Bay Times that Meyer kicked him during warmups. That was the icing on the cake. The Jag’s part ways with Urban and its safe to say we should never see Meyer on an NFL sideline again. Not even in the Metaverse.
